The Green Point Living Building Project

The Green Point Living Building Project

General contractor – energy efficient single-family residence

A new single-family residence construction project located on Cowichan Bay, this project was designed by the Green Point Design Collective.

A 2500 sqft home, the Green Point Project produces all of its energy on site through a full photovoltaic array, and is constructed of all non-toxic, natural and salvaged materials. The project is working towards Passive House, Living Building, Green Shores for Home, and Zero Energy certifications, making it the most sustainable building in the world.

All materials used for construction must follow the Living Building Challenge criteria. This leads to much creativity in acquiring materials, from salvaging logs that have washed onto shore, to hunting down used 2×4’s, to repurposing recycled materials. Bernhardt Contracting has been able to showcase our skills and adaptability with materials on this project, and it has led us to re-examine the way we build.

Anticipated project completion is Spring 2019.
